Senator Portman wants IRS to move fast to implement tax changes

Sen. Rob Portman is urging the Internal Revenue Service to act quickly to change its withholding tables in the aftermath of congressional package of a bill overhauling the tax code.

In a Dec. 20 letter to IRS Acting Commissioner David Kautter, Portman urged the IRS to “take immediate action to update the relevant guidance documents for employers that are necessary for the administration of payroll in compliance with federal law.”

“On behalf of the hard-working Americans across the nation who are eager to see their paychecks reflect the benefits of this historic legislation, I request that you expedite any requisite updates to the relevant guidance on withholding,” he said.

He asked the IRS to keep him informed about the process in order for him to update Ohioans about what to expect.
