Kasich: U.S. is going to have to make sacrifices to defeat ISIS

John Kasich was interviewed by CNN’s Carol Costello Thursday morning. Here is the exchange:

Carol:

I want to go to the rhetoric that’s out there. Donald Trump did say the President was a threat to his own country. Other candidates have called President Obama a joke.

This is a time that Americans are feeling real anxiety after what happened in Paris.

Shouldn’t this be a time that we’re drawing together to come up with a plan, don’t we look to our leaders to calm things down, not to panic people?

Kasich:

“I’ve argued that experience in being an executive matters, you haven’t heard me using that kind of language.”

I am very determined about what I believe, as an executive, your job is to keep calm, not to call names, and I don’t do that.

That’s not who I am, I don’t think it’s constructive, and I don’t think its helpul for our country.”

This country is going to have to make sacrifices now in order to defeat this enemy, and we can’t be doing this arguing and fighting with one another, and frankly Carol, I don’t think what the governors of this country are asking for, a bi-partisan group of governors is asking for is something that is unreasonable. I’m disturbed by calling the President names, any President, I didn’t like it when they called George Bush names. They called him all kind of names, we have to knock this off because we are American’s before we are anything else.”

Carol:

You said you want to develop a Judeo-Christian federal agency to provide a clear mandate of what our values are?

Kasich:

Carol we used to have a Voice of America. I believe in the Western ethic—what is that? The equailty of women, respecting science and education, the importance that recognizing every single life matters, we need to bring those moderate Muslims in to be able to communicate this throughout the world as to who we are. It is a war against our civilization.

We need to more effectively be able to communicate exactly what our values are and we shouldn’t run away from them.

This isn’t designed to be exclusive or say you have to go to church.

Its to do what the Voice of America did, and that’s to communicate what our values are as a civilization. Because our very civilization is under attack. They don’t like that your a woman and a newscaster, they think you should be a piece of property.

They think if we don’t think the way they do, we should be killed.

“We need those moderate Muslims who’ve condemned the Paris attacks, there are a great number of them speaking out saying this is not who we are, this is not what our religion is.

We need to gather them together with the people who are the traditionalists in our country—those are the members of the Jewish faith, the Christian faith, the Muslim faith, to deliver a strong message worldwide, about the dignitiy of an individual, the fact these radicals don’t respresent hope or the future for anybody, its about humanity and who we are.”
