Christmas Assistance Sign-ups for the Salvation Army in Springfield will now be online only.

“Due to Clark County teetering on “Red” and “Purple” on the COVID-19 Advisory System, The Salvation Army is now forced to present an alternative for its Christmas Assistance Sign-ups,” The Salvation Army Springfield Corps posted on their Facebook page.

All applications will now be done online only at https://bit.ly/ClarkCountyAngelTree. No hardcopy applications will be offered.

All online applications will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 30, and no applications will be accepted after that date.

Those applying must have custody of any and all children included on the application. Identification for each child listed is also required, without exception, on the day and at the time of the scheduled toy pickup.

“We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Please help us spread the word to any who may be in need of Christmas assistance this year,” the post stated.

If you have any questions, please call 937-322-3434.

A couple of other ways to help this season is the paper kettle campaign and the online kettle campaign “Kettle Wars,” which will both run from Nov. 2 to Dec. 22.

All of the Lee’s Chicken locations, Subway on Derr Road, South Limestone Street and in the Wal-Mart on Tuttle Road, Casa Del Sabor on Derr Road and Los Mariachis on East Main Street will all be participating in the paper kettle campaign, Ryan Ray, Development Director with the Salvation Army, said last month. When you’re at the register and buying food, people can donate a dollar by using cash or card and writing their name on a paper kettle that will be put up for people to see.

The Kettle War online kettle campaign will be a contest with prizes and trophies, and winners will be announced on Dec. 23.

The Highway Hikers 42nd Annual Christmas Toy Run that collects toys for Clark County children in need and donates them to the Springfield Salvation Army also took place on Oct. 18 where more than 1,500 bikers rode through the county to help support families during the Christmas holidays.
