The report cards only contain a handful of normal data points as the spring 2020 state tests in English, math, science and social studies were canceled after mid-March coronavirus-related school closures.
“This year’s state report cards do not provide a lot of information, but there are components that do affirm the effectiveness of our school district,” said Superintendent Brian Kuhn.
Clark-Shawnee scored the highest prepared for success rate in Clark County at 48.8%. This is how well-prepared students are for the future, including ACT, SAT, dual enrollment credit and honors diploma.
According to state report card data, 140 students earned a remediation free score on all parts of the ACT or SAT, earned an honors diploma, and/or earned an industry-recognized credential.
This includes that 94.4% of students took the ACT, 30.7% of students earned a remediation free score, 1.1% took the SAT, 10.8% earned a remediation free score, 14.2% received an honors diploma, 37.8% received industry-recognized credential and 60.1% participated in earning three or more dual enrollment college credits.
“Clark-Shawnee leads Clark County in our percentage of students with ACT remediation free scores and percentage of students that graduate with three or more college credits. To achieve a remediation free score on the ACT, students must achieve scores of 18 in English and 22 in Math. Clark-Shawnee also had 60.1% of students graduate with three or more college credits which is attributable to our robust College Credit Plus program,” Kuhn said.
Clark-Shawnee also scored the second-highest four-year graduation rate in Clark County at 94.8%, a close increase from last year’s 94.6%, and a five-year graduation rate of 96.8%, according to state report card data. Northwestern Local School District scored the highest four-year graduation rate in county at 98.1%.
The state report card’s four-year graduation rate data applies to students in the class of 2019 who entered ninth grade in the fall of 2015 and graduated by the summer of 2019. The five-year graduation rate data applies to students in the class of 2018 who entered the ninth grade in the fall of 2014 and graduated by the summer of 2019.
According to state report card data, 61.5% of the 2017 graduating class entered college within two years and 35.9% of the 2013 graduating class graduated from college within six years of leaving high school.
“While these measures are calculated at the high school level, there is no doubt that these student achievements are connected to the entire K-12 academic experience within the Clark-Shawnee school system," Kuhn said.
