Police investigate robbery at Springfield gas station. FILE

Police are investigating a robbery that was reported early Wednesday morning at a Springfield gas station.

Officers responded around 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday to Love’s Travel Stop, 1725 Ridge Road, on an armed robbery, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they spoke with an employee who was working the register when a man entered the store.

“(The victim) stated that the man seemed strange because he was smoking a cigarette in the store and kept making furtive glances,” the report stated.

After entering the store, the suspect walked up to the register and handed the cashier a note.

“The note said, ‘give me all the money in the register or I’ll shoot’. She told the male she could not open the register, but the male became irate and demanded that she open the register or he’d shoot her,” the report stated.

The employee told police that’s when she opened the register, put the money “in a white grocery bag which the male had brought in with him” and gave him an unknown amount of money, the report stated. The suspect then left the business on foot towards the BP across the street.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

According to the report, the employee told police the suspect was described to be wearing a charcoal gray Nike hooded sweatshirt, a red shirt underneath, light gray sweatpants and black tennis shoes with with white trim.

No other suspect information was available.

Springfield police continue their investigation into this robbery.
