Playing coy about halftime

So, tomorrow’s the big day for the NFL — will you be watching the Super Bowl?

And if so, why? Even though the game draws plenty of viewers who normally don’t tune in for football, we spotted a poll this week that said 20 percent of viewers are there solely for the commercials. Don’t forget Puppy Bowl!

Then there’s the half-time show, which somewhat weirdly has taken on some huge cultural significance that almost overshadows the game itself, which everyone usually agrees wasn’t that exciting. This year, Lady Gaga takes the stage. She’s being coy about what she’ll play, though it is known that she’ll have Tony Bennett at her side; she and the 90-year-old crooner have done quite a bit of good music together, though I suppose it’s also possible he’ll join her for a duet on “Pokerface.” Take that, Janet Jackson.

Meanwhile, there will be parties and beer, all those commercials and plenty to talk about on Monday — which, after all, may be the best part of it all.

Oh, yes — the Patriots play the Falcons. Almost forgot! Drop me a line at rrollins@coxohio.com.
