The nomination deadline for the annual Springfield City School District Alumni of Distinction Awards has been extended to Dec. 16 due to the coronavirus, according to a release.

“Nomination forms will still be accepted if postmarked and received by the new deadline,” said Steering Committee Chairman James Bacon. “If all goes well, Springfield City School District nominees who have made outstanding accomplishments following graduation will be recognized at a public ceremony on April 16, 2021.”

To nominate a former student, letters of recommendation must be attached to a form, which are available at the superintendent’s office, 1500 W. Jefferson St., or on the district’s website at www.scsdoh.org.

Previous nominees not already honored are also eligible to be nominated again, but updated information and a photo must be received by the deadline.

According to the release, to received this award, the nominee must have graduated from SCSD at least 10 years before being nominated; have demonstrated significant achievements in at least one of the following areas: professional or occupational success, contributions to society or service to the country or other organization; and must be of excellent character.

This program, carried out by the Alumni of Distinction Award Steering Committee, is funded by donations from community business, individuals and foundations, and is not paid for by tax dollars of school funds, the release stated.
