The woman, identified as Tiffany Marie Roberts, 29, admitted taking the drug ecstasy on the day she gave birth after going to a local hospital for shortness of breath, according to WTVC, citing a recent Chattanooga police affidavit in the case.
Roberts, who was arrested Tuesday, also allegedly told doctors “she has a problem” with drug addiction.
During her pregnancy, checkups revealed Roberts tested positive for various drugs three different times, including cocaine, oxycodone and methamphetamine, The Tennessean reported.
Police said both babies, who died two days after birth, tested positive for “several narcotics,” including cocaine.
Roberts is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse or neglect and a charge of viable fetus as victim, WTVC reported.
"Roberts' illicit drug use during pregnancy, in conjunction with the medical record, the infants were subject to aggravated child abuse and neglect which later led to their deaths," a police officer concluded in the affidavit.
She’s jailed in Hamilton County on $1 million bond.
