A Texas woman is facing an animal cruelty charge after authorities said she threw several kittens from her vehicle in Bowie County.

According to KSLA-TV, Sonia Talette Shavers, 53, of Texarkana, was arrested Friday after a driver reported that someone was throwing kittens from a blue Chevy Tahoe near U.S. Highway 67 and County Road 1215, the Bowie County Sheriff's Office said. The caller had tried but failed to avoid hitting one of the animals, authorities said.

After the caller gave dispatchers the vehicle's license plate number, a deputy pulled over the Tahoe on Farm to Market Road 3098, KTAL reported.

Shavers, the vehicle's driver, was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals and jailed on $10,000 bond, the Sheriff's Office said.

It was not immediately clear what happened to the kittens.
