Texas man steals ambulance, buys cigarettes, KFC, police say

A Texas man is accused of stealing an ambulance from a psychiatric hospital in order to buy cigarettes and food.

The ambulance was stolen from Cypress Creek Hospital, a mental health facility in northern Houston, KHOU reported.

According to authorities, Carlton Andrews, 56, a former patient at the hospital, jumped into the ambulance at 2:30 a.m. Thursday and drove away, heading to a KFC for food and a convenience store to buy cigarettes, KTRK reported.

Authorities tracked the ambulance to a gas station, where Andrews was arrested, KPRC reported.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Andrews said he took the ambulance because he needed a ride, KTRK reported.
