Veterinarians in Wisconsin had an interesting case recently when a good Samaritan found five young gray squirrels last week that had tangled their tails together so badly that they couldn’t separate themselves, KMSP reported.
Officials at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center at the Wisconsin Humane Society said the tails were so matted together with grass and strips of plastic their mother used to make their nest, KMSP reported.
It was described as a “Gordian Knot,” according to the Facebook photos posted by the Humane Society.
Doctors had to anesthetize the squirrels to get them apart since they were “unruly” and “nippy” because they were scared, KMSP reported.
Each squirrel had some tissue damage to its tail, but they’re being watched by the staff at the rehabilitation center for any necrosis from lack of blood flow.
