Officers in Sydney found the drugs, worth more than $1 million (about $700,000 USD), in 15 snow globes, authorities said. The package had been targeted by ABF Aviation Goods officers and underwent an X-ray before a test of the liquid inside the globes returned a presumptive positive for methamphetamine, officials said.
“The ABF has invested heavily in our technological capability in recent years and we can see further into every package than ever before," Danielle Yannopoulos, the ABF regional commander for New South Wales, said Tuesday in a statement. "Our officers continue to prove, time and time again, that criminals who attempt to hide these substances in new and imaginative ways are wasting their time. It doesn't matter how clever you think your concealment is – we can find it."
Authorities said the case was turned over to Australian Federal Police for further investigation.
It was not immediately clear from where in Canada the package was sent. Officials continue to investigate.
