Security camera video shows the dog, named Riley, without hesitation, barreling straight into the bear, which was raiding birdfeeders when the incident happened.
The dog snarled and nipped at the larger animal and chased it straight off camera back into the woods.
Homeowner Mark Stinziano said the incident happened Tuesday night at his home in Hewitt, New Jersey.
“My neighbor's dog is getting a steak dinner next time I see him,” Stinziano said in a social media post.
“He is an awesome pup that comes to check on the kids from time to time. Now he is keeping them safe!”
