According to a document filed Friday in Anchorage Superior Court, Todd Palin, 55, sought to dissolve their marriage, the Anchorage Daily News reported. Todd Palin cited an "incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife," according to court documents.

The divorce filing uses initials instead of full names, but it identifies the couple's marriage date -- Aug. 29, 1988 -- and the 2008 birth date of Trig Palin, the youngest of the couple's five children.
The filing asks for joint custody of Trig Palin, the Daily News reported.
Sarah Palin, 55, was elected the ninth governor of Alaska in 2006. In 2008, Republican presidential nominee John McCain chose Palin as his vice-presidential candidate.
Palin resigned as governor in 2009.
