Robbery in Atlanta airport parking deck leaves family feeling ‘completely invaded’

In the video released Tuesday, the suspect is shown walking out of a Target with items investigators said were bought with the victim’s credit card after the Sept. 13 robbery in the south daily parking deck.

Maya Callaghan told WSB-TV the man bought $1,000 worth of gift cards with her husband’s stolen card. Her family is still trying to get ahead of several attempts to access their bank accounts and personal information.

"You just feel like you're in a safe place where there's so many people that you would just never think,” she told the news station in an interview. “Your guard is down because it's the airport, and you feel like you're safe.”

Callaghan said her husband was coming home from a work trip on Sept. 13. He had just returned to his vehicle and was situating his luggage when he was approached by a gunman, according to Channel 2.

He "saw a shadow and then immediately felt a gun in his chest," Callaghan said.

Her husband texted her a short time later from an unknown number telling her he had been robbed at gunpoint. She thought it was a scam at first, until reality set in.

“I just panicked, because all of a sudden your life feels completely invaded,” she said.

The gunman allegedly took her husband’s cellphone along with his wallet. With a gun to his chest, Callaghan said her husband was forced to unlock the phone and watched as the gunman changed the password.

After inspecting her bank records from that day, Callaghan believes the man used her husband’s Uber account to book a ride to the Target. She also thinks he was working with an accomplice because someone used her husband’s credit card to buy a trip on MARTA.

Atlanta police have not released any further information about the robbery. They are hoping someone will recognize the suspect from the surveillance video and help investigators identify him.
