Recall alert: Crashes prompt Ford recall of 600K vehicles

Ford Motor Co. recalled 600,000 midsize vehicles Friday, following more than one dozen reported crashes resulting in at least two injuries, multiple news outlets reported.

A braking issue is to blame for the crashes, and the automaker's recall applies to certain sedans manufactured at a facility in Hermosillo, Mexico, MLive reported.

The vehicles affected include Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Mercury Milan models produced between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009, the outlet reported.

According to USA Today, the recall is intended to fix a hydraulic defect, and the company issued the following description of the mechanics driving the problem:

“In some affected vehicles, a normally closed valve inside the hydraulic control unit may stick open, which could result in extended brake pedal travel, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.”
