Since July 31, at least 16 people have gotten sick from salmonella after handling the treats, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
"No single supplier, distributor or common brand of pig ear treats has been identified that could account for all the illnesses," health officials said.
There have been 143 people infected with the strains of salmonella in 35 states, health officials said. Symptoms from salmonella include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps. The young, the old and those with weakened immune systems could become severely sickened.
Pig ear treats from multiple manufacturers have already been recalled.
