Myriah Iles, 27, who has been with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department since 2015, was decommissioned after being charged with aggravated assault, WSMV reported, citing a police news release.
Witnesses reported seeing Iles grab a woman -- later identified as her girlfriend -- by the throat on a downtown street, The Tennessean reported.
According to police, when two witnesses confronted Iles as she attempted to "place that woman over her shoulder" and walk away, the police officer allegedly began pushing and punching one of the witnesses, the newspaper reported.
The victim suffered a broken nose and was taken to an area hospital, where she was treated and released, WZTV reported.
When police arrived at the scene, Iles was being restrained by two men, the television station reported.
According to the news release, Iles told officers she was carrying her girlfriend because she was intoxicated and did not feel well, WZTV reported.
Detectives are investigating whether domestic violence charges should be added to the assault charges against Iles, The Tennessean reported.
