Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder was contacted about an overdue plane around 2 a.m. and started searching for the wreckage at first light Sunday.
Deputies used cellphone pings to determine the crash site and found the charred remains near Dunn Mountain in an area difficult to access using a helicopter.
"It's tough. It's not a real rough area, but there's some coulees and stuff that it's tough to get across," Linder told the Gazette.
