A mother from North Carolina is in trouble with the law, and her own children turned her in.

Columbus County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that Bristol Kay King used the Social Security numbers and other information of her children to open 12 credit cards at stores like Walmart, Victoria's Secret and Lowes, WWAY reported.

The alleged scam was discovered when the children started receiving packages with their names on them but were ordered not to touch or open them.

One of the children told their father and their stepmother what was happening, and the adults ran credit reports for the kids starting with the oldest. The parents found credit cards and fraudulent charges on both children's reports, law enforcement said.
