Smith, showrunner and executive producer of the reboot, said the new anime will "pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor," Variety reported.
Powerhouse Animation of "Castlevania" fame will animate the series, which will be produced by Mattel Television, according to Variety. Mattel TV Vice President Rob David, who wrote "He-Man: The Eternity War," also is listed as an executive producer.
Smith followed up his announcement, which came at the Power-Con convention in Anaheim, California, with a tweet promising that the new series "will not be a Stinkor."
"By the Power of Grayskull! I have to shower! No – I mean I have the flour! Myah! One more try: I HAVE THE POWER! Thank you @Mattel and @netflix for letting my play in your Universe!" he wrote.
The announcement did not include an expected release date for the series.
