Michael McKendrick, 36, brandished a knife, then pulled out a gun and cocked the hammer as the victim used a weed wacker to defend himself, WJAC reported.

Police said McKendrick and another person who was driving the vehicle followed the victim to a Walmart parking lot at 12:30 p.m. and confronted the man because of a road rage incident, WJAC reported.

When McKendrick pulled the gun, the victim ran back into his car, drove off and called 911, WJAC reported.

McKendrick got back into his vehicle and his driver chased the victim along the highway until police pulled them over, WJAC reported.

There was no firearm in the vehicle. McKendrick told police he threw it out the window, WJAC reported. Investigators later recovered a realistic-looking BB gun pistol in the weeds along the highway, WCED reported.

McKendrick was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, WJAC reported.

The driver was suspected of driving under the influence and was arrested and charged with DUI, WCED reported.
