A man is seen slapping a wheelchair bound woman in the background of a television reporter’s live shot Monday.
Viewers demanded something to be done. They called the newsroom, posted on social media and called police.
After the broadcast, a KPNX reporter and crew tracked down a police officer parked across the street.
Randall Burgess, 60, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault.
The woman was incoherent for the most part while investigators tried to interview her, according to KPNX. Police escorted the woman back to her apartment.
As Burgess was led away handcuffed he can be heard saying: “I’ll get you.”
Burgess has a history of charges including for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and probation violations, according to KPNX. He was put on probation in June for a 2015 felony resisting arrest case, according to KPNX.
