According to surveillance video, the man was changing the oil in his car in front of a Marathon gas station in Hollywood on June 4, WFOR reported. As he was bent over the front of his car, a silver Toyota pulled up. In the video, one of the thieves walks behind the man and reaches into his back pocket to steal his wallet, the television station reported.
The two men then jump into their car and the victim chases after them, WPEC reported. The driver of the Toyota put it into reverse, and his open door hit the victim, knocking him to the ground, according to WFOR.
“Fortunately the victim wasn’t seriously hurt, but it could have been much worse,” Hollywood police PIO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman told the television station. “It’s a good reminder that when you are pumping gas or changing a tire, always remain vigilant."
