A 62-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene in Opelika after the 9:04 a.m. collision, the Opelika-Auburn News reported. A 36-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl were also injured, the newspaper reported. The names of the victims have not been released, according to Opelika police Capt. Shane Healey.
Opelika police said all three victims were related and that family members have been notified, WRBL reported.

The 36-year-old was taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, and was in serious condition, Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said. The 3-year-old also was taken for treatment in Columbus and is expected to make a full recovery, Healey told the News.
Police believe the car was trying to beat the train across the tracks, but ended up colliding with it, the newspaper reported. Police do not believe the train was traveling at a high rate of speed, the News reported.
