According to Hillview police, Joshua Reynolds, 22, of Radcliff, was arrested on several charges, including auto theft, kidnapping, fleeing police and driving under the influence, after the incident, which began Monday morning in a Shepherdsville parking lot.
In a news release, police said a woman called dispatchers about 9:10 a.m. to report that a man had stolen her car outside a UPS store. The woman said she had left the vehicle running with her baby inside while she went into the store, WLKY-TV reported.
A Hillview police officer later spotted the stolen car on Interstate 65 and tried to stop it, but the driver fled, sparking a chase involving several law enforcement agencies, according to WLKY.
Officers were able to catch Reynolds when he "lost control of the vehicle" and crashed on the side of the roadway near the Outer Loop overpass, the news release said.
Although Reynolds and the baby were not harmed, first responders took them both to a nearby hospital, WLKY reported.
When investigators interviewed Reynolds, he said he had taken methamphetamine, according to WLKY. He has been booked at the Bullitt County Detention Center, authorities said.
No charges have been filed against the baby's mother, the TV station reported.
