State troopers found 28 credit cards, meth, autographed Super Bowl footballs and historic newspapers in a car during a traffic stop.

A routine traffic stop turned into a large criminal investigation by Indiana State Police, as authorities found more than two dozen stolen credit cards, methamphetamines, historic newspapers and two autographed Super Bowl footballs, authorities said.

On patrol Wednesday, Trooper Shana Kennedy pulled over a driver that apparently was driving a vehicle with a false license plate, WXIN reported.

.“The trooper noticed a plate that looked like it was false, and further investigation revealed that it was,” Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine told the television station. “As (officials) searched the car, they found a lot of what appeared to be stolen items.”

In addition to the suspect's car being reported stolen, troopers found sealed newspapers reporting the assassination of President John F. Kennedy's in November 1963. Troopers also found 28 credit cards under various names, WXIN reported.

“Some of these items were very unique. We know somebody out there is missing them, so we’re hoping to find the owners of these items,” Perrine told the television station.

The driver of the vehicle, Michael Wood, was arrested after police also found two autographed Super Bowl footballs, four cellphones and a small amount of meth inside the car, according to WXIN.

According to court records, “Wood could not explain all of these articles and just kept saying they had been in the car when he got it.”

"That's all part of the investigation, but we believe they were stolen items," Perrine told WXIN.

Wood was booked into the Marion County jail on simple drug-related charges, the television station reported. He is due in court next week
