13-year-old North Carolina girl found safe after disappearance

Police said a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing in a northeast Charlotte neighborhood early Thursday morning has been found safe.

Update 10:55 a.m. EST Jan. 9: Authorities previously asked for the public's help finding Yarelli Vasquez, 13, who was last seen around midnight.

Police announced around 10 a.m. Thursday that Yarelli had been found unharmed. Her family has been notified, WSOC-TV reported.

Original report: Emergency crews were spread out across a North Carolina neighborhood early Thursday morning as they searched for a 13-year-old girl reported missing by her family.

Detectives were asking for the public's help in finding Yarelli Vasquez of Charlotte. Police told WSOC-TV that the girl left her house on Canterwood Drive, near North Tryon Street, around midnight.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the girl is believed to be in mental distress and her family is concerned for her safety.

WSOC-TV crews were out in the Hidden Valley neighborhood before dawn as CMPD officers along with about 20 members of the Charlotte Fire Department searched the area.
