The Tampa Bay Times reported that deputies confronted Schwarz after the girl's parents found a journal detailing their relationship. The journal indicated Schwarz has been involved with the girl since she was 14.
The girl told deputies she and Schwarz had sex multiple times.
Deputies say Schwarz admitted to the relationship and turned himself into jail.
A spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol told the newspaper that Schwarz had been fired.
"The alleged actions are reprehensible, and the department continues to cooperate fully with the investigation," Capt. Thomas E. Pikul told the Tampa Bay Times.
Online court records showed no attorney for Schwarz, who remained in jail Saturday afternoon.
