Eight people, including a 3-month-old child, were being evaluated for smoke inhalation and other injuries after the fire, authorities said.
“We had two that we know were injured,” Deputy Chief Armando Hogan said.
The fire was put out just before 10 a.m., authorities said.
Video from the scene of the fire showed people, some dressed in bathrobes, standing on the roof of the building as a helicopter began evacuating residents, according to social media reports and The Los Angeles Times.

Authorities are investigating.
