Firefighters have knocked down a fire reported Wednesday morning at a 25-story residential high-rise building in Los Angeles, according to fire officials.

Authorities initially said the fire, reported before 8:45 a.m. local time Wednesday on the sixth floor of Barrington Plaza Apartments on West Wilshire Boulevard, prompted some residents to jump from the building. However, firefighters later said no one jumped.

Eight people, including a 3-month-old child, were being evaluated for smoke inhalation and other injuries after the fire, authorities said.

“We had two that we know were injured,” Deputy Chief Armando Hogan said.

The fire was put out just before 10 a.m., authorities said.

Video from the scene of the fire showed people, some dressed in bathrobes, standing on the roof of the building as a helicopter began evacuating residents, according to social media reports and The Los Angeles Times.

Firefighters said the blaze appeared to be “suspicious,” although they declined to elaborate.

“It is currently being assessed, it is a possibility," Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas said. "It is suspicious right now.”

Authorities are investigating.
