'Extremely dangerous' inmate caught after escaping from South Carolina detention center

A South Carolina inmate accused of murder was caught early Friday after escaping from a detention center Thursday, the Sumter County Sheriff's Office said.

Update 5:23 a.m. EDT July 26: The Sumter County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page early Friday that Stephen Stinnette, 32, is back in custody. Stinnette, accused of murder and described as "extremely dangerous," escaped from a detention center Thursday night.

The Sheriff's Office said it would release more information later Friday morning.

Original report: A South Carolina inmate accused of murder escaped from a detention center Thursday and is considered "extremely dangerous," the Sumter County Sheriff's Office said.

Stephen Stinnette, 32, escaped from the Sheriff's Office detention center Thursday night, WCSC reported.

According to a Facebook post by officials with the Sheriff's Office, Stinnette is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He is bald with tattoos on his neck and the top of his head.

Stinnette still may be wearing a detention center uniform, officials said.
