The Southeastern Conference fined the school $250,000 Monday for violating the league's policy about "access to competition area," AL.com reported.

The school also was fined after the Tigers beat Alabama in 2013 and 2017 at Jordan-Hare, the website reported. Auburn basketball fans also stormed the court at Auburn Arena after the Tigers upset Kentucky in 2016.

The SEC policy was adopted in 2004 "for the safety of participants and spectators alike," according to ESPN. The league said it was the responsibility of each member school to maintain order.

The league fines a school $50,000 for a first offense and $100,000 the second time the infraction occurs, AL.com reported. Third and subsequent violations cost $250,000; it's the second time Auburn has been hit with the $250,000 fine.

For years, the Iron Bowl was played in Birmingham. Beginning in 2000, the series was shifted to each school's home field, with Alabama hosting in even-numbered years at Tuscaloosa's Bryant-Denny Stadium, and at Auburn in odd-numbered years.
