The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall in a notice Wednesday. It encompasses all three-prong AC wall plug adapters included in Apple’s World Traveler Adapter Kits before February 2015.
The adapters in question, typically used for travel in Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom, can break, exposing the metal portion of the adapters and posing an electric shock risk, according to CPSC. About 814,000 World Traveler Adapter Kits were sold in the U.S. Another 81,000 were sold in Canada.
Officials said Apple received six reports of the adapters breaking and shocking people worldwide. At least two of the people shocked sought medical attention, though CPSC officials said both consumers were evaluated and released without treatment.
The Apple adapters were sold from January 2003 to January 2015 for about $30, officials said.
Authorities advised anyone who has one of the adapters in question stop using it immediately and contact Apple for a free replacement.
