North Lewisburg mayor’s race, Mechanicsburg council contested

3 candidates hope to be mayor, while 3 others vie for 2 council seats.

NORTH LEWISBURG — Three candidates will try to win a spot as North Lewisburg’s mayor this fall, while three candidates will seek two available seats on Mechanicsburg’s city council as well.

Jason Keeran, the current mayor of North Lewisburg, said like many local governments, the biggest challenge in the next few years will be to find ways to continue to provide adequate services despite fewer resources.

A lifelong resident of the village, Keeran said his experience will help provide steady leadership in the next few years.

He faces a challenge from Nathan Holycross and Connie Switts.

Holycross, who owns a small landscaping business, has lived in the village for more than 30 years. If elected, he said his goals would include finding ways to provide public services to residents in the most efficient manner possible.

Switts, who moved to the village in 2004, said her goal if elected would be to meet with residents and search for ways to encourage economic growth in the village.

In Mechanicsburg, Damon Reece, a current member of council, will seek re-election in one of two open seats in the village.

He faces a challenge from Jodi Eileen Compton, an office manager with Kite Realty. Compton said she sees the open seat as an opportunity to encourage local residents to get more involved in their community.

“I just decided I didn’t want to be one of those people sitting on the sidelines,” Compton said.

Christian Bradford also is seeking to retain his seat on the council. Bradford was appointed to the council more than two years ago, and is seeking a full term. He said the village, like many others, will face financial challenges in the next few years, and he views the council seat as a way to serve the community.

“I think community involvement wherever you live is important,” Bradford said.
