Chris Christie in new book: ‘People in politics despise John Kasich’

When former Republican Gov. John Kasich ran for president in 2016, he appeared to irritate one of his opponents, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

In his new book, “Let Me Finish,” Christie said that after he turned in an uneven debate performance, Kasich told him, “You know what happened to you, don’t you Chris?”

When Christie said he had no idea, Kasich told him, “God wanted you to play right field and you insisted on playing shortstop. No matter how many times God told you to play right field, you insisted on playing shortstop. And last night you went out and the ball went through your legs.”

In his book, Christie writes, “Right there, I understood why so many people in politics despise John Kasich.”

In an email to Cleveland.com, Kasich spokesman Chris Schrimpf disputed the claim.

According to Schrimpf, Kasich and Christie had a roughly 30-second phone call after the New Hampshire primary, during which Kasich wished Christie well and said he considered him a friend.
