Butler Co. Clerk of Courts (Rep)

Butler Co. Clerk of Courts (Rep)

All candidates were asked this question: Within the context of the elected office you are seeking, what is the most important issue facing your community and what would you do to address it?

Mary L. Swain

Bio: Butler County Clerk of Courts (current); Common Pleas Court (22 years relevant Court experience); Butler County Republican Party (30 years); BCGOP Central Chair (2 terms); State Central Committeewoman (4 terms); Board Member, Elderly Services Program; FOPA; Special Deputy Sheriff; NRA.

Answer: The most important issue is the county's budget shortfall. I have taken steps to address this by refunding $1 million dollars in excess funds to the county; by cutting 2012's budget to an 8 year low (2011's was a 5 year low). We're also upgrading and replacing obsolete computer systems, which currently pose a potential loss of vital court data, which will be coupled with cost savings via virtual storage.

Answer: It has never been more important for the Clerk of Courts office to provide excellent service to the community. People facing critical issues in their lives like divorce, custody or foreclosure are at their most fragile. Protecting their rights and their assets has become even more important in this economy. I have the experience needed to create innovative solutions, meet the needs of our citizens and face the challenges of the future.
