Mostly clear, cold today; Rain, snow expected Thursday night

Today will be largely clear and cold, with a high around 44 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

We will see clouds decrease throughout the day, but starting in the evening clouds will gather again, for mostly cloudy skies overnight, though they will fall again after midnight. Temperatures will fall to around 31 degrees.

By dawn on Thursday, skies will be partly cloudy, and highs will again be in the mid-40s at about 45 degrees.

Thursday night clouds will rise, and after midnight we will start to see a chance of rain, which will rise a few hours before dawn and be joined with a chance of snow. Overnight lows will be around 34 degrees.

Both rain and snow chances will linger after dawn, though snow chances will drop off a short time after.

During the day on Friday, we will see a chance of showers throughout the day, with a high near 41 degrees. The NWS also predicted we might see some strong, gusty winds as strong as 25 mph.

After night falls, we will see lingering rain chances change to snow chances, which will continue to slowly rise throughout the night. Temperatures overnight will fall to around 27 degrees.
