Rescuers pull man clinging to ice from Indian Lake in Logan County

A man clinging to ice in Indian Lake Tuesday afternoon was pulled from the water and flown to an area hospital.

A water rescue was initiated at 3:45 p.m. after the man had been in the water for 25 minutes, about 200 feet from the shore of Miami Island, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

When crews responded, the man was not underwater but dispatchers reported he may have been submerged at some point.

Water rescue boats responded to the spillway, where the man was pulled from the water and taken to a helicopter pad. He then was flown by LifeFlight to an area hospital.

The man’s condition was not known, but hypothermia can quickly set in. The high temperature only reached the 20s Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Dispatchers did not know what led the man to go into the water.
