Troopers first started receiving calls about a reckless driver on I-75 North before 1 p.m. Investigators said the van bounced off cables in the median several times before coming to rest about three miles north of the Ohio 41 exit in Troy.

Cruiser camera video of the incident released Thursday afternoon showed Trooper Jeremy Wheeland rescuing Scott Long, 49, of St. Marys.

The trooper found Long unconscious. As the van started to catch fire, Wheeland pulled the driver from the vehicle to safety, Sgt. David Robinson of the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Long was transported to an area hospital, however his condition is unknown.

Troopers said they are checking two drug-related items that might have been a factor in the crash,  however the official cause is currently under investigation.

The crash shut down northbound lanes of I-75 until just before 2:30 p.m.
