Mother, 14-month-old child killed in fiery crash near Wilmington

A mother and her 14-month-old child were killed in a fiery crash involving four vehicles near Wilmington on Ohio 134 Monday night, according to reports.

Passengers Wendy Brewer, 20, of Wilmington, and 14-month-old Ariala Brewer, were both pronounced dead after the crash around 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Two other victims were taken to local hospitals.

The crash occurred when a 16-year-old boy driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier attempted to pass a Dodge Caravan on Ohio 134 south, according to the release. The teen’s vehicle struck the van, driven by Daniel Mayo, 63, from behind.

The Cavalier, the vehicle in which Wendy and Ariala were riding, went left of center and struck a northbound Buick Century head-on. The Cavalier caught fire after being struck by a second car that was traveling north, the release said.

The teen driver, a Martinsville resident who has not been identified, was taken by CareFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital, according to the release. His condition has not been released.

The driver of the Buick was taken to Clinton Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the release said. No other injuries were reported.
