A Springfield woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head, although her injuries were not life threatening, police said.

Officers spent about two hours at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Crossgate Court, but declined to provide many details while the case is being investigated. It’s not clear how many people were in the apartment when the incident occurred, nor is it clear who fired the shot or whether the shooting was accidental, police said.

Police also did not say what type of fire arm was used or if it was recovered.

“She was shot in the head but it doesn’t appear there was any kind of penetrating wound. She was very fortunate,” said Sgt. Joe Tedeschi of the Springfield Police Division.
