2 juveniles off to hospital, then detention after crashing suspected stolen vehicle

UPDATE @ 8:25 p.m.: Two juveniles have been taken to Dayton Children's Hospital, then likely to county juvenile detention, after a citizen held them at gunpoint as suspected car thieves, police said.

Their injuries are believed to be not life-threatening, police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the juveniles are suspected of stealing a Jeep earlier today in Dayton. The owner’s son saw the vehicle and began following it.

The Jeep rounded the corner at Harvard Boulevard and Dartmouth Drive, where it hit a tree and a parked pickup truck. The collision pushed the truck into another parked vehicle.

The owner’s son, who has a CCW permit, pulled out a handgun and ordered the juveniles to stay on the ground until police arrived.

INITIAL REPORT

The 1200 block of Harvard Boulevard in Dayton has been shut down because of a vehicle accident involving a pickup truck that is believed to have hit a tree, another pickup and at least one vehicle.

The accident was reported just after 7:30 p.m., about the same time as the report of a shooting in the same general location that turned out to be unfounded.

Dayton police and a medic unit remain on scene. We are working to learn more about this incident.
