1 injured in multiple-vehicle accident that shuts down Irving Avenue in Dayton

UPDATE @ 12:54 a.m.: A driver sped off when police tried to pull him over on Irving Avenue in Dayton for a suspected traffic violation and he hit two parked cars before being trapped in the wreckage of his own car, a UD public safety officer said.

INITIAL REPORT

One person was injured in a multiple-vehicle accident that has closed Irving Avenue, near the University of Dayton campus,  in both directions until further notice.

University of Dayton Public Safety is handling the investigation, but a Dayton police officer tells us alcohol is suspected as a factor in the accident.

UD Public Safety officers were the first to reach the accident at the intersection with Mahrt Avenue in Oakwood, which left one person trapped. Dayton fire/paramedics successfully extricated that victim, whose injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to the Dayton police officer.

The accident, reported about 12:18 a.m., is believed to have involved at least three vehicles.

Irving Avenue remains closed in both directions until further notice.
