“Once they opened it, they determined it was something that should not have been shipped to their facility,” said Battalion Chief Jeremy Linn, who noted the package also appeared to have been damaged.

The hazardous materials team was called around 2 p.m. and entered the facility. The scene was cleared around 4 p.m.
“We identified the product to be inert, essentially a dye product,” Linn said.
There was no malicious intent, he said, and the package was misdirected mail.
Cascade, which has a manufacturing facility at 2501 Sheridan Ave. in Springfield, leads the world in quality lift truck attachments, forks and accessories, according to its website.

The scene was clear when our crew arrived but we are working to learn why a hazmat team responded to the business.
FIRST REPORT
A Springfield Fire Division hazmat crew is on scene this afternoon at a Springfield business.
The team is at Cascade Corp., 2501 Sheridan Ave.
However, dispatchers were not able to confirm why the team responded to the business.
We have a crew on the way and will updates this report.
