Good English's Leslie Rasmussen 'deeply sorry'

Dayton girl rock band Good English member Leslie Rasmussen is back on Facebook responding again to criticism and the fallout surrounding her letter of support for convicted Stanford sex offender Brock Turner and statements that followed doubling down on her point of view.

In a post late Wednesday night, Leslie offered a tight and concise apology for her previous statements regarding her letter of support and perspective as to the childhood friend she knew and the person Brock Turner proved himself to be that night in Palo Alto.

In her post she writes:

"As I said previously, as part of the sentencing process, I, and at least 39 others wrote character statements to the judge in the case.

Although I was asked to share how I knew him, how long I have known him, his character and personality, time spent with him, activities together, and any other opinion I had on the matter, I was not there that night. I had no right to make any assumptions about the situation.

Most importantly, I did not acknowledge strongly enough the severity of Brock’s crime and the suffering and pain that his victim endured, and for that lack of acknowledgement, I am deeply sorry.

I fully understand the outrage over Brock’s sentencing and my statement. I can only say that I am committed to learning from this mistake. I am 20 years old, and it has never been more clear to me that I still have much to learn."

Comments show support for the 20-year old and youngest Rasmussen sister and her most recent apology. She previously, in her letter of support for the court, had blamed Brock Turner’s actions on alcohol use and continued to assert through social media her belief that it was drinking which caused Brock Turner to sexually assault an unconscious 23 year old woman behind a dumpster on Stanford’s campus. Internet backlash was swift, with many of the sister’s band, Good English‘s future performance dates both locally and nationally being cancelled with venue citing no desire to side with apologists.
