“We’re pretty confident it was a suspicious fire,” Linn said Monday afternoon. He noted that fire crews left the house closed and secure the last time they used it, but its windows and doors had been removed when crews arrived on scene early Monday on the report of a fire.
Linn said the department encourages residents living near vacant houses to keep a watchful eye on such properties for suspicious activity.
Springfield crews said they quickly put out a fire in a vacant house on South Yellow Springs Street because the department has used the house for training and there is a fire hydrant across the street.
Fire crews consider the fire to be suspicious because the house has no utilities connected to it. They said the fire began in the rear of the house in an attached shed.
This fire is under investigation.
