Fighter jets evacuate N.C. for Wright-Patterson

Fighter jets that fled Hurricane Arthur to seek a safe haven at Wright-Patterson, have started to depart our area. You may have noticed the jets in the sky this Fourth of July.

On Thursday, ahead of Hurricane Arthur, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base officials evacuated 54 aircraft to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

One resident reported seeing a plane just about every 5 minutes for three hours, and another reported seeing 20 sets of two to three fighter jets fly over the area.

In all, the North Carolina base says it epositioned four KC-135R Stratotankers and more than 50 F-15E Strike Eagles as a precaution to avoid damage from high winds.
