FAA to investigate engine-failure landing of Cessna in Mercer County

UPDATE @ 4 a.m. (July 13): The FAA will send an investigator to Mercer County to determine what led to the reported engine failure that forced a Greenville pilot to make an emergency landing in a soybean field Thursday afternoon.

Roger Trump, 61, told authorities he was spraying a field when he force-landed the 1979 Cessna A188B about 4:50 p.m. in the field northwest of Erastus Durbin and Rockford West roads near Rockford, according to the Wapakoneta Post, Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is the investigating agency.

Minimal damage was done to the aircraft, the patrol said.

The state patrol said the Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and will send an investigator. When that FAA official is to arrive in Mercer County was not certain.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the county emergency management agency and Rockford Fire Department assisted in responding to the incident.
