Coronavirus: PPE supply ‘will not meet immediate or future needs,’ Acton says

Ohio has received its allocation of personal protective equipment from national stockpiles, which includes gowns, gloves, goggles and masks, but it’s not adequate, the Ohio Department of Health announced Tuesday night.

Ohio made its request early for its shipment of PPE from the Strategic National Stockpile for healthcare providers, EMS, law enforcement and other people on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The supplies we received, and the state’s reserve will not meet the immediate or future needs of Ohio’s healthcare providers and first responders,” said ODH Director Dr. Amy Acton. “This shortage is why our message has been to conserve. Industries with PPE are encouraged to donate what they have to their local Emergency Management Agencies.”
