Many parts of the Miami Valley area are damaged following the strong storms and tornadoes Monday night.

AAA offers several tips on what to do after the storm.

Homeowner insurance claims:

  • Inspect  your home for damage then notify your insurance company as soon as possible
  • Prepare an inventory and take photographs of damaged property
  • Store undamaged property in a protected place if possible
  • Cover broken windows and other holes to prevent further damage
  • If power is out, disconnect all computers and appliances from electrical sources
  • Be present when the adjuster inspects your damage

Home insurance coverage:

  • Policies include additional living expenses in the event a home is severely damaged by an insured disaster, this would pay for reasonable expenses incurred by living elsewhere while the home's being fixed or rebuilt

Auto insurance claims:

  • Take photos of any visible damage
